Good and Proper Tea

I absolutely love a tea shop- and I love that feeling of finding a GOOD tea shop!

Good and Proper Tea, based in Leather Lane, Clerkenwell, offer an excellent and carefully sourced range of quality teas, fantastic snacks (the sour dough crumpets are to die for) in a super chilled and friendly environment. The staff are always super friendly and the service is quick, but measured- you can’t just rush a good cup of tea! I met my friend Sanjay there recently, and we spent a good 2 and a half hours just talking and enjoying the environment. It’s my favourite place to meet friends if I can. I had my favourite- the sourdough crumpet with raspberry jam, and Sanjay chose the crumpets with avocado which he said was delicious (the raspberry jam one always is and I heartedly recommend!!) For drinks, I had a Ceylon, Sanjay had an Earl Grey and we both enjoyed a cup of the milky Chai Latte. It’s nice to have a cup of tea where you can actually TASTE the tea 🙂 The prices are very reasonable, and as I mentioned the environment is just so lovely and a good place to meet friends, have a business meeting, have a date even!

I also really like the activities they put on, which I’m aware of from their facebook page and website. In December a friend and I attended their Tea Tasting Evening for a mere £10 each (plus small booking fee) and that, if you like tea, was a great way to try many and understand their different varieties. From this, you really understand Good and Proper Teas passion at what they do and also how ethically minded they are in doing what they do.

The only sad thing is they only open Monday-Friday (M-T 8-6PM, or M-F 8-5pm), as I am presuming the area is just too quiet at weekends and therefore not enough business for them- plenty on during the week though, and they offer an online shop and offers from time to time (which I have taken advantage of!) So for those of us who occasionally get a day off during the week or who work nearby, it’s perfect. Otherwise do look at their other activities, for both morning and evening, which include meditation and life drawing. Or you can find the team at various UK festivals, or more frequently their tea van (which is how they started life out) which sells their finest at Brockley Market every Saturday from 10-2pm.

Keep doing what you’re doing Good and Proper!
